Golden Year

Well tomorrow I celebrate my golden year birthday. I had no idea what this meant until my mom explained it to me a few weeks ago. I have been extremely busy at work. Its coming to year end which is very stressful but when its all said and done you are relieved. It is a bit more stressful this year due to the upgrade for our system we have to get a new server. Which will take us down for the busiest month for accounting. I am not looking forward to it but in the long run it will be for the best.

Family is doing great. A few of us in the family have moved up in the technology world (Dad, Mary and I) Dad and I got blackberries and Mary got a MotoQ. I haven't had to get a book out for a cell phone until now but wait there isn't a book!!!! Its on a cd for the computer. So I will be teaching myself over the holiday weekend of how to use this thing and teaching Dad. Mary is on her own!

I hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving and if you are traveling please be safe. I have family traveling in and hope there travels go well!

Get out and VOTE!

TOday is the one day you can make a change. This country needs a change. I am not going to sit here and tell you who to go and vote for. That is your opinion. I however have always been a huge supporter of the Democratic Party and will continue to be. My good blogger friend, you know who you are, have the same political views as I do and we have been having a blast with the election this year. SO GET OUT THERE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE! VOTE!

Knock Knock

I feel like someone is knocking on my head. It is just pounding and then on top of it my whole body hurts and my stomach is upset. So I have a feeling I am coming down with something.

I have done my part this year and already voted. I am so sick of watching all the commercials on tv. It is getting so old watching them go back and forth. I hope everyone gets out and vote we really need a change. Don't think your one vote won't make a difference because it will. Its going to be a good race just like our local races are going to be good. I enjoy helping out with political things however haven't had time to do much with them for the last couple of years.

Well its fall time and my allergies have been going nuts. I am suppose to be in the lovely city of Denver today until Monday but that had to be put on hold for a while. I still kept the time off from work. I just had a very relaxing day today. I have decided to reorganize my house. I am doing one room a day. Today was the living room and I am just about there I just need a really strong guy to move my tv. Theres no way this woman is moving it even if i tried. Oh wait I already have tried.

I went looking for a new mattress for in the bedroom. What an exhausting experience. I just want something so i am comfortable and don't have backaches. I said a mattress not a whole new sheet and pillow set. Apparently you need deep pocket sheets well damn it i like the sheets i have and they don't come in deep pockets. so what is a person to do. I will continue to sleep on my current bed until I figure out a different option.

That is all of an update that I have for now. since i am on vacation I am going to try and post a few more things throughout the weekend.

Summer is almost over

where has the time gone. I am sitting here just realizing I didn't get to do half the stuff I wanted to this summer. I remember growing up how the summers would be jammed pack with events with my grandparents. This year I only got to see my grandpa twice. Not a good thing but that is just how crazy life can get.

Had a great time at the Carson family reunion this year. I am going to try and make it more often then what I have been. However I am back to work 7 days a week so taking time off can be a little difficult.

My friend Shannon is home from the Army. I am so excited she is home we have been able to tackle a few things on our list of things to do this summer.

Bailey started school last week and she loves it. I don't know to many kids that are excited to go back to school. She was so thrilled the night before. Mary starts college this week. Its going to be tough but I think she can handle it.

Shannon and I are planning are making a trip to Colorado this fall and most likely this winter.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Family Reunion

This weekend is our annual family reunion. I haven't been to the actually picnic in 9 years. I have made appearance at the end of it and all the food would be gone. I have been working Sunday's for 9 years and just haven't ever got the weekend off. Well this year that has changed. I have the whole weekend off and I am taking off Friday to have a day to myself. In years past we have had family members out to the cabin usually our Missouri and Colorado relatives for a grill out. Just so I would be able to see some of my family. We are going to Janell's house to enjoy a hot dog cook out this year. It sounds like great fun and finally get to taste some of Janell's good cooking. She blogs about all this good stuff. Plus I get to met some of her family that I read so much about. I am very excited to see everyone. Then Sunday its off to the picnic in Oakland which usually its very hot! According to the weather forecast there is a chance of rain so I am sure it will be humid.

Its been a long week because my parents and baby sister are in Canada this week so I haven't been able to talk to them. Its almost driving me nuts. I love my parents and sisters very much! They land Friday afternoon, Mary and I plan to have everything ready for them for the weekend. Well hopefully see everyone this weekend. Val you are on my list for not coming!!!!

Happy 4th of July

I hope everyone had a Happy 4th of July! I am so sorry to everyone that I didn't make it to blogstock. I was going to stop out on my way home since I was staying at the cabin in Tekamah. However my day changed very fast when this happened.....

This is my parents friend Mike's boat that we boating on that afternoon. Well needless to say we all had to jump ship. It was the scariest thing I have ever been though. I know I have a guardian Angel up there somewhere. We all made it okay. The boat is non salvageable. So I think I have had the biggest firework display I care to ever been involved in. Here is a few more pictures I took from the sand bar when we got rescued!

Mary will be the next Quick to graduate from Blair High. It is approaching fast and there is things to be done! I am just about done with the scrapbook and her video is about half hour away from being done. What task this has been.

She is very excited but I am not sure what she is exactly doing after school is done. Well college but I am not sure where or what her major is. Anyways her party is May 10 from 4-8 at the Fire hall in town.

Goal Update!

Well its been a while since I have done an update on my goals.

Goal #1- I joined Weight Watchers and have been losing and maintaining weight. I haven't really gained if I have I lose it within a day.

Goal #2- Finances they are getting better. I am getting things slowly paid off. I have moved to a cheaper apartment to try and save money. I no longer drive my gas guzzler. I drive my dad's Oldsmobile to save on gas.

Goal #3- I will not be making this goal by Fall so it will most likely be the beginning of the year. Which is OK because I am not sure of what classes I want to take. I need to take the time and figure out where I want to go.

Goal #4- I have become more organized with moving.

Goal #5- I am getting in better shape. I just can't sit down when I get home from work otherwise I don't want to go do anything.

Goal #6- Well that one speaks for itself. Blogging hasn't been on my top priorities.

No Motherhood.....

for me for a while. The past two weeks have been crazy! My sister Mary has been a huge help with my moving process. She came down on March 13 and 20th to help me with boxes. Both days I kid you not her damn van broke down. Not at the new apartment of course at the old place. It was quite the experience. Luckily it is fixed now and running like a champ!

Mom and Dad went to Mexico and returned last night! It has been non-stop on the go since they left. Bailey came down with a cold on the 20th when she was helping me move. It continued all the way to Tuesday night. She is now better but still has a cough. We decided to surprise my parents while they were gone and paint there living room and dining room. Boy did I do a project. It isn't a professional job but it looks good. I see the flaws but that is me and I did the job.

I am all moved in and have sent an email to family and friends of the new address. If you didn't get the email let me know. I have no more boxes to unpack. I already have pictures hung up. Now I just need to enjoy my new place. Hopefully this week.

Mary's graduation is getting close and I haven't started her scrapbook so that will be a major project for the next few weeks. I will get it done. I am just about through my photo albums now i just need to get through mom and dads. Had the perfect opportunity last week but was to busy with other projects.

I haven't been to weight watchers for a week but will get back this week. I can tell that I am doing good because all of my work pants are to big. YES FINALLY! Now I just need to keep working hard at this and get where I want to be at.

Friday, March 7, 2008

Well I have sat down and started going over my goals that I have set. They are very realistic goals but living where I do it just isn't going to be the best thing for me. I spend over $700 a month in rent. which I know isn't a lot of money but for how much I make it is a lot of money to me. So I have made a change in my living arrangements. I will be moving in 2 weeks. I am going more out west Omaha then what I currently am. I am starting to majorly stress out about the whole move. My parents won't be around to help me they will be vacationing at my cousin's (Buddy) timeshare in Mexico. I will be watching the girls and I know they will be great help. I have two guys from my work that is going to move the big stuff. I just need to get packing. Which shouldn't take to long but I just know I have basically next weekend to get it done. Considering I am working this whole weekend. It will all work out in the end it always does.

I have cancelled my gym membership because of where I am moving has a brand new gym which is very nice. I am still trying to keep active as much as I can. I popped my knee two weeks ago today at the gym so I have been being very careful with it. It seems to be getting a lot better.

WW is going awesome. This week I gained .2 of a pound which I think is very unfair to put on there because it isn't even .5 pound. That could have been my socks, bra or panties. Oh well I am sticking to it. I have learned quite a bit with it. I am going to try some new recipes. We will see how it goes. I tried one last weekend and it ended up in the trash because I didn't have the right thing to go with it.

Hope everyone is doing well and I will send an email out to people with my new address as soon as it is set in stone.

Friday, February 22, 2008

I have been so good this week with working out. I usually dread going to the gym. For some reason I was pumped and excited to go I even went in the morning at 5 am and in the evening. If you know me well enough you know something is wrong because I like to sleep till the last possible minute. I am not sure what is wrong with me but I think I can handle being this way. I have so much energy and have been enjoying the "gym life". I get to catch up on the news in the morning and in the evening I watch the sports channel. Then I listen to my mp3 player. I need to come up with some new music to put on there because I have listened to it so much this week. I am totally enjoying this new lifestyle. I am hoping that it will pay off in the end. My workout consists of the elliptical for 30-40 minutes, the stationary bike for 25 minutes. By the end of my workout I have done 8-10 miles. Before I would be so tired that I would just want to lay on the couch. Not now I go home and just keep going whether its picking things up, cleaning, going through things. I usually don't stop till 9 and then I go through all the shows I dvr and in bed by 10.

weigh in

Well I had my first weigh in at Weight Watchers this week. I have lost 3 pounds since last wednesday. That made me excited. I thought it would be more but after talking to a few people they told me I have to make sure I eat all my points and the other points. Well I hadn't been doing that I would be short just about everyday. Last night was the first night I hit all them and I feel great today I have a ton of energy and I just want to go go go. So I have changed my goals that I had set at the beginning of the year. My goal is by the time my sister graduates (May 11, 2008) to be at my 10% or less. I really like this program and it is helping me learn so many things. If you are struggling like I was go and make this lifestyle change it is definetly worth it.

Will be back

I haven't been blogging because I am still dealing with my grandpa's death and trying to get back into everyday life. This week has been quite hectic with trying to get things done that I didn't do last week. Tomorrow is going to be cleaning day. I usually do it through the week but that didn't happen to much the last couple of weeks. Just the main things no deep cleaning like i usually do. I have started a new diet this week or they call it a new lifestyle. I have joined weight watchers. I have had family members join it and have great success. So I have decided what the heck give it a shot. Well I hope everyone had a great week and successful on there diets!

Thank you

Thank you to everyone! This week has been a long and stressful week. Thanks to everyone that traveled in for the funeral it meant a lot to all of us. It was good seeing everyone just wish it wasn't under those circumstances. Grandpa is in a better place now with Grandma Mary Lou. He isn't suffering. Once again thanks to everyone! I do have a post in the making of things about my grandpa and some different stories that were told.

Hope everyone made it home safe!

I am always looking for new ideas of things to eat. I thought I would share with everyone on what some of the different things I do.

honey nut cheerios with skim milk and some bananas cut up on top

english muffin with strawberry jelly

weight control oatmeal

Morning snacks:

carrots and tomatoes with fat free zesty italian dressing

fat free yogart

fat free pudding

Turkey sandwich on Wonder bread that is 40 calories with a slice of colby jack cheese

Salad and soup

Afternoon snack:

grapes (when they are cheaper)

my 100 calorie kudos bar

special k bar

This is probably one of my hardest one because I love my potatoes and red meat. However I have went to eating chicken quite a bit

Chicken in the slow cooker

3-4 chicken breasts
1 can of reduced fat cream of mushroom
1 can of reduced fat cream of chicken
1 cup of milk

mix it all together and throw in the slow cooker for 8-10 hours. Love this just had it last night!

I grill chicken at least 2 or 3 times a week on my indoor grill. Sometimes i just put it on a bed of lettuce with some tomatoes on the side. I have also bought jennie-o ground turkey. it isn't to bad but you have to definetly season it when it cooks. I will do some more thinking about what I eat. Hope this helps some. If you have any ideas please share!!!!!

Why do I live in a state when Monday it was 55 degrees and today it is -2 with the wind chill. This is just ridiculous. I want to head where it is nice. Where I can play golf every day, sit by a pool, go for a walk outside without a coat on and be just comfortable. Instead just to walk out to the mailbox I have to have a winter coat on, a scarf, a hat, and gloves. By the time I am back inside i have my little space heater cranked on high and shivering.

I am still working on all my "new year resolutions" or goals not sure what to call them. I think I would rather call them goals.

Goal #1 was to lose 5-10 lbs each quarter. I have kept the 7 pounds off since December and working on the next 5 that I want to come off. Dieting hasn't been the best but I have just watched my portions big time.

Goal #2 was to get my finances in order. Which I have a budget in place and have been following it very closely. Been able to pay 2 bills off and start a savings. Yeah for me got a lot accomplished in a month. Just think I have 11 more months to go.

Goal #3 was to go back to school in the fall. Which is actually looking like I might be able to go back in the summer semester if they have the classes I needed.

Goal #4 was to become organized more. That has happened, I have now purchased a shredder so I don 't have a bunch of stuff in a pile that was to be shredded. I know where everything is and I can find it within less then a minute if I don't get distracted with doing something else.

Goal #5 to get in better shape and play different sports. Well this one I haven't even started to much. I have definitely been slacking on this one. I did take a boot camp class at the gym and boy has that hurt. It really makes you realize how out of shape you are. I have yoga tomorrow night.

Goal #6 is about blogging. Well I am sure you can tell how that one has went. I will work more on this one.

I hope you enjoyed the update there will be another one next month. Hope everyone is sticking to there goals for the year and have great success with them.

I will post more in the next few days. I have pictures from Saturday to share with everyone.

Heads Up!

I thought I would give everyone a heads up. My blog might be dead for a week or so. This coming up weekend I have company coming to town. My lovely SMITH Family is coming (Bob, Sandy, Ed and his girlfriend) I am not sure who else is coming but I can't wait. I am so excited I was hoping the Woodhouses would be coming but I haven't heard a word on them. We will all be in Fremont Saturday night for Marla's husband (Pete) fundraiser? i don't know if that is the right word to use. Anyways Lynn's daughter Brooke has put together this dinner for her uncle and it is going to be awesome. I am so excited that I get to see people and its not even summertime.

The other reason I will not be checking in is my Grandpa Quick is in the hospital and has been there for a few weeks. My dad has been down there as much as he can but a person can only do so much. He is only a few miles from work so I am going to try and get up there as mush as possible this week to see him.

I hope all is doing well and can't wait for this coming weekend. Talk to you all soon. OH and Steph I sent you an email at hotmail about the cookies.

Catch up

Well i am trying to play catch up! I have been extremely busy with year end and have been beyond exhausted when I get home at night. This year end has been a nightmare for some reason. I don't remember last years that much but I was on some drugs for some pain that I was suffering. So maybe it was a nightmare and I just don't remember or just blocked it out. I have been staying focused on my goals for the year. I have got one bill paid off already so that has made me happy. Now just working on the other ones so I can start a savings. I have lost 6 pounds since Christmas so that makes me happy and I have been able to keep it off for a week now. I just have to get back to the gym since I am about done with year end. Well sorry this is short got to head into the office. Take care all and will play more catch up soon!

P.S. I love you

I read this book and it was a great book. It has been turned into a motion picture but I wanted to read it first. I am not going to do a review on it because it just won't give it the justice. I recommend anyone that has had a death in the family especially a significant other to read this book. It made me laugh, cry, laugh some more and cry some more. A very healing story for the heart. So what are you waiting for go check this book out!

New Year and New Resolutions?

Well 2007 has come and gone now. I look back and don't feel like to much was accomplished. One person told me well if you don't make goals then you won't feel that way. Well what is the point if you don't have goals in life. So I have set my goals a little less this year then in previous years that way I feel like I have accomplished things. So here it goes for my New Resolutions:

1. Each quarter I want to lose 5-10 lbs and keep it off.

2. I want to get my finances figured out better.

3. Fall semester I want to be able to start back to school even if its just one class a semester and I want to be able to pay for it all up front. NO more student loans since I just paid those off in 2007.

4. I would like to become better organized with things at home. I do a very good job now but I want it to be excellent.

5. I want to get into better shape and play more sports. I want to play some golf this year since I haven't got to the last two seasons.

6. Blog more then what I have in the past.

These are what I would like to accomplish I am hoping they are going to happen. We will see when the time comes. I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season and Happy New Years to all!
